What is the Liebster Award?
Although I’ve only launched my blog about 2 months ago, one thing I noticed right away is how supportive other bloggers are of each other. There is no competitive attitude in the blogging community, everyone is happy to help and support their fellow bloggers.
So the Liebstar Award is recognition given to bloggers by bloggers. The word “Liebster” is a German word meaning, “beloved, dear or favorite”. You nominate your favorite bloggers who in return nominate their favorite bloggers. Basically, it’s bloggers being able to pay it forward and giving recognition to their favorite blogs!
Pretty cool eh?
The Liebster Award has been in existence since about 2011, and is pretty well known in the blogging community.
Who Nominated Me?
I was nominated for this award by the beautiful Isa at americanizedisa.com Isa is orginally from Germany, but moved to the United States to become an au pair in Washington DC. In her blog, she tells stories about her au pair and expat life. She tells you everything you need to know before making the big decision to move to another country, and what it takes to get there. Even if you have no plans to move abroad, you still need to check out her blog! Her posts are so inspirational and full of knowledge! It is very cool to read about someone else’s experience of moving to your country, what they had to go through and how life is so different in a foreign country! My favorite post by Isa is Life in America-A German Point of View
Once you are nominated, go about the following steps:
- Display the award on your blog.
- Thank the person who nominated you, and link back to their blog so others can check them out!
- Answer the questions that the blogger gave their nominees.
- Nominate 5-11 blogs that you love and give a short description about why you love them.
- Create a list of 11 questions for your nominees.
- Make sure you inform your nominees and give them a link to your post.
My Answers To Isa’s Questions
Why did you start blogging?
I started my blog shortly after having my third baby. I knew that I wanted to quit my job and be able to stay home with my kids. I thought that making a blog would be a great source of income as well as helping to keep me insane and occupied while at home.
What is the most beautiful place you have ever seen and why do you like it so much?
I feel so blessed to be able to live in the most beautiful place that I have ever seen. There is a reason that the Upper Peninsula is known as “God’s Country”. The beauty is unmatchable in the summer time! From Lake Superior to Pictured Rocks. There are hundreds of waterfalls and hiking trails everywhere. The Great Lakes are a thing of beauty and wonder! The population in the UP is scarce, so you aren’t competing with people to experience the beauty. You truly feel like you can be one with nature up here.
What’s your favorite sport?
I love watching and playing baseball! Nothing feels more like an American summer than watching a baseball game with an ice cold beer!
If someone gave you 1 million dollars, what would you do?
Everyone always thinks I am crazy, but I will not play the lotto when the amount gets crazy high. Everyone is buying a Powerball ticket, and I’m over here praying I don’t win. Don’t get me wrong, a nice chunk of change would be amazing, but I feel like the pressure of having that much money too quickly would be too great. That being said, the first thing I would do is pay off college loans and the mortgage to wipe out our debt. I would then like to help out any family members or any charities that are near and dear to our heart. With any left over money I would begin to build our own brewery.
How much time do you spend blogging each week?
I used to spend 20 hours or more a week when I was working full time. Since this is my first week home, and I am finding a new normal, it has been much less. My goal is to figure out how to still do at least 20 hours a week.
Are you a cat or a dog person?
Full grown, I like dogs more than cats! As babies, I prefer kittens to puppies!
What’s your favorite movie of all time?
Grease has been my favorite movie since I was a kid. I miss sexy young John Travolta, before he got old, ugly, and weird.
If you could meet one famous person, who would it be and why?
Bobby Bones, from the Bobby Bones Show. A national morning radio show. his story is so inspiring. He grew up very poor in a small town in Arkansas, born to a teenager mother hooked on drugs. He literally came from nothing and worked his ass off to build an empire. He was the youngest person ever inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame. He is so down to Earth and real, and has worked for everything he has in his life. He also uses his platform to raise millions of dollars for charity. Just a real stand up inspirational dude.
What do you think your life will look like after you retire?
My husband and I have always talked about getting an RV after we retire and road trip across the country! Without a doubt, I will have a summer home somewhere much warmer!
What do you think when you see a spider?
Depends where it is. If its not in my house we can co-exist peacefully, each minding our own business. If it’s in my house, I automatically assume it is the most dangerous spider known to man, and it’s dead set on murdering my entire household. Of course I’m not going to be the one to touch it, so I make my husband be the human sacrifice to take care of it.
What’s your next big thing?
I am working on starting a meal planning service for busy moms collaborating with food bloggers! It’s still in the idea stage, but I’m excited about the possibilities!
Check back within the next 2 weeks. I will have my nominees chosen as well as my questions for the next group! If you would like to be considered for a nomination, drop your link in the comments below!
